Dahlia's are tuberous perennials that are considered half hardy and may need lifting, planting in a sheltered location and/or mulching in order to over-winter successfully. Their long flowering period (generally July till the first frost) and the generosity of flowers has made them worth the effort to gardeners for centuries.
'Engelhardt's Matador' is an upright, bushy, clump-forming, tuberous perennial with pinnate, toothed, dark green-bronze leaves and, in summer and autumn, strong stems bearing decorative, purplish-pink flowers that have open centres which is great for bee's, planted on mass this variety really does pull you into its gorgeous contrast between flowers and foliage.
